When you arrive for your intake appointment, you will meet with a professional counselor. The counselor will review your medical history, current health, and substance abuse history while explaining the treatment process. The Intake assessment helps us assess what treatment approaches and frequency of individual and or/group sessions is best suited for your needs.  For most clients, you will be assigned a therapist on the day of your intake and provided a schedule of treatment.

DUAL DIAGNOSIS

Many of individuals struggling with drug or alcohol use disorders also have some sort of additional mental health problem. It is essential therefore to be sure to treat the accompanying mental illness. Alcohol and drug use can be a result of a mental disorder.  The mental disorder causes a person to use alcohol and substance to alleviate their anxiety and depression, creating an addiction to drugs and alcohol.  Similarly, alcohol and substance use can cause a mental health disorder that results from substance abuse and an addiction to drugs and alcohol.  Therefore, it is important to see a professional counselor to help you treat the potential underlying causes of the substance use disorder. Psychotropic medications may be an important part of dual diagnosis treatment. Some of our patients in our program also see psychiatrists for mental health medication management.

Our Outpatient Treatment Program (OP) incorporates group and individual therapy sessions focusing on substance abuse and addiction.

Individual therapy and counseling

Individual therapy and counseling is the foundation of change, especially for alcohol or drug use and mental health issues such as depression, anxiety or self-esteem problems. Our therapist counseling helps clients sort out their thoughts and feelings in order to gain a better understanding of who they are.  Our counselors offer integrative approaches including behavioral and cognitive-behavioral interventions. Our counselors are trained in evidence-based and best practice approaches to treatment.  All our clinicians receive ongoing supervision to ensure that our clients receive the best treatment possible. We make every effort to assign a counselor with the skills that match to the individual needs of each client.

Group Therapy

Group therapy has been a core aspect of drug and alcohol addiction recovery for several decades, and it has proven to be very effective. Human beings possess a natural propensity to develop connections and congregate in groups. Addiction researchers at Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Association (SAMHSA) assert, “group therapy a powerful therapeutic tool for treating substance abuse, one that is as helpful as individual therapy, and sometimes more successful.”  Therapists that lead group discussions help to ensure that the community remains confidential and that members treat one another respectfully.

As a client in OP, you will gain the coping skills necessary to encourage long-term abstinence. You and your therapist confidentially once or twice a week to discuss your personal goals and struggles with substance abuse.  You will be scheduled once a week for an evening or morning group session where you are provided with an open forum to share with other people facing similar struggles. During the group session, a Group Counselor will be on hand to therapeutically guide the discussion and provide materials.

Every client is unique and our Outpatient program focuses on providing an individualized care plan targeting your specific needs.

Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT)

Along with behavioral counseling, medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for opioids and alcohol will help remove cravings and withdrawal symptoms while also help to prevent relapse and to promote long-term recovery.  MAT helps to control the physical distress associated with addiction and frees you to work on healing your emotions and learning new behaviors that contribute to a life of which you can be proud. We use Suboxone and Vivitrol and other medications to help manage addictions. Our medical doctor will perform a thorough assessment as part of your treatment process. Our doctor will prescribe appropriate medication when deemed necessary and your medication-assisted treatment will be carefully monitored.
